Willis Edward Johnson, of Carmichael, CA, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at the age of 86.
Memorial services will begin at noon on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the LaBolt Covenant Church in LaBolt, SD. Pastor Mark Chapman will officiate. The pianist will be Carol Ydstie.
Family members are asked to meet in the church basement by 11:45 a.m. Saturday to attend services. Burial of his cremated remains will be in the LaBolt Cemetery.
He was born on April 10, 1924, in LaBolt, SD, to Carl and Edna (Shaw) Johnson.
He grew up on a farm in the LaBolt area as the only child of his parents. Once he graduated from Strandburg High School, he moved west to California and joined the Navy.
Willis served his country during World War II from October 1, 1943, until his honorable discharge as a Hospital Apprentice First Class on May 17, 1946. He received the American Area Medal and the Victory Medal.
Willis spent the better part of his life as a salesman. His son Paul stated that his Dad could sell dirt to a dirt farmer! To his credit his father passed this talent to his sons, Paul and Chris. Willis sold freight for shipping companies.
He was very involved with the Masonic Lodge throughout his life, enjoyed politics and the opportunity to share his political views.
Surviving are his four children: Paul and Audrey Johnson, Carmel, CA; Chris and Judy Johnson, South Lake Tahoe, CA; Candy Johnson, Santa Rosa, CA; Michael and Tamra (Johnson) Burke, St. Louis, MO; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
