Wayne Wellendorf

Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home announces the death of Wayne Wellendorf, age 62, of Ortonville, MN, who passed away on November 12, 2020.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Chapel in Ortonville. Wayne will be buried later in Spring 2021 at Mound Cemetery in Ortonville.

While maintaining social distancing guidelines, we are now able to accommodate gatherings of up to 250 people. The use of face masks by attendees is required, and we will continue taking the necessary steps to keep our facility clean. For those who prefer or require continued precautions, webcasting and/or livestreaming is available in most situations.

Wayne Erwin Wellendorf was born on September 16, 1958, in Ortonville, MN, to Erwin “Bud” and Lorraine (Gregerson) Wellendorf. Wayne’s father started teaching him to weld at the age of 12. As an adult, Wayne purchased his father’s welding business and the two continued to work together until Bud’s death in 1998.

When his father passed away and when he experienced flood damage to his home in 1997, Wayne fell on hard times. He decided to take welding jobs in North Carolina and in North Dakota. Wayne returned to Ortonville a few years later. Welding had taken a toll on his eyesight, subsequently Wayne accepted a job at Ortonville Stone Company.

Wayne’s friends described him as a good man who liked to help people. He enjoyed mowing his huge yard, trimming trees, and visiting with his friends and family.

Wayne is survived by his mother, Lorraine Hines; his sister, LaRae Wellendorf; along with many other friends and relatives including 48 first cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Erwin Wellendorf; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society.
