Warren McCormick

Warren Francis "Cy" McCormick was born on March 15, 1920, in Minneapolis, MN, to parents, Fred and Mable (Damon) McCormick. As a young boy, he was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. He attended school in Minneapolis and graduated from Minneapolis North High School in 1938. Following his graduation, he then attended Brown University in Minneapolis where he studied radio.
On August 24, 1943, Warren was married to Hilda Hartmann at the St. Mary's Cathedral in Bismarck, ND. The couple made their home in Ortonville where they were blessed with four children, Sharon, Mike, Pat, and Mary.
Cy loved radio and started his radio career at KWAT in Watertown, SD, before partnering in ownership of KDIO in Ortonville, where he worked for the rest of his career. He enjoyed working both on and off the air, as well as selling advertising. In his spare time, Cy enjoyed watching baseball especially the New York Yankees. He was a devoted member of St. John's Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He took his Catholic faith very seriously, and taught Catholic instruction to youth and adults and was also a sought after speaker for many groups. Warren took pleasure in reading religious books, most importantly his bible. Cy treasured time spent with family and friends and cherished memories made while playing cards or discussing his love of cars. He will be truly missed by those that loved him and called him friend.
Warren passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at the Ortonville Hospital in Ortonville, MN, reaching the age of 86 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mable; and two sisters, Geneva and Mary.
Warren is survived by his wife Hilda McCormick of Ortonville, MN; children, Sharon Gentzler of Casper WY; Mike (Barb) McCormick of Jamestown, ND; Pat (Debbie) McCormick of Sammamish, WA; and Mary McCormick of Minneapolis, MN; seven grandchildren, Michelle Jung of Savage, MN; Jim McCormick of Cape Carteret, NC; Courtney Gentzler of Portland, OR; Kelly McCormick of Sammamish, WA; Casey McCormick of Portland, OR; Michael McCormick of Redmond, WA; and Katie McCormick of Sammamish, WA; four great grandchildren, Zak, Ben, Faith, and JJ; two sisters, LaVerne and Margaret; two brothers, Wayne and Fred; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
