Walter Harlan Hallock III was born on April 21, 1947, in Ortonville, MN, to parents, Walter II and Virginia Schafer. As a young boy, he attended grade school in Ortonville and graduated from Ortonville High School in 1965.
Following his education, Walter enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge, Walter returned to Minnesota and made his home in Plymouth, MN, where he drove truck. During this time, he met Starr Reed. The couple was married in their home in Plymouth on December 8, 1991. In 1999, Walter and Starr returned to Ortonville and purchased the Sunrise Motel.
In his spare time, Walter enjoyed working on and restoring old cars. A mechanic by trade, he loved "wrenching" and "tuning" everything. His love for cars also made him an avid NASCAR Fan and rarely ever missed a race. In the rare off time, Wally enjoyed fishing especially ice fishing with is wife Starr, and hunting with his family and friends. Wally was a member of the Big Stone Lake VFW Post #3964 and the Gertje Van Lith American Legion Post#229 as well as a member of the Moose Lodge.
Walter passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at the Ortonville Hospital in Ortonville, MN, reaching the age of 59 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Betty Lou.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Starr; step children, Dehlin Greenwood, Mark (Kari) Greenwood; Jamie Lu; Mary Stohl; and Carre Dunbar; step grandchildren, Alexanderia, Tanner, Anthony, Reese, Sierra, Todd, Breanna, and Kevin; one brother, Vince (Mary) Hallock; and a special nephew, Danny Hallock; as well as many other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
