Virginia Wilson

Funeral services for longtime Milbank resident, Virginia M. Wilson, age 87, of Watertown, SD, will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 14th, at the American Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milbank. The Reverends N. Craig Werling and Janine Rew-Werling will officiate. The organist will be Carol Ydstie and the soloists will be Kyle Moldenhauer and Deb Rausch.
Virginia died on Friday, December 11th, at the Golden Living Center in Watertown.

Family members are asked to meet in the church chapel by 1:30 p.m. Monday to attend services. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. Her casket will be closed in the church on Monday. Honorary casket bearers will be her granddaughters: Jackie Wilson Pospisil, Amanda Wilson Fox, Alex Wilson, and Dani Wilson. Active casket bearers will be her grandsons: James Wilson, Timothy Wilson, Rob Bolger, Joseph Bolger, Keith Pospisil, and Rick Fox.
Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Milbank Area Hospice or to the American Evangelical Lutheran Church Music Fund in Milbank.

Virginia May Hallstrom was born on December 30, 1921, to William Albert and Mathea (Hegna) Hallstrom, at Webster, SD. She was baptized in the Christian faith on April 30, 1922, which she renewed on May 3, 1936, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Webster.

She graduated from Webster High School and from Augustana College. Virginia taught music and physical education in the Howard, Sisseton, and Milbank, SD, schools.

In the presence of God she married Jim L. Wilson on August 26, 1945, in a military wedding at First Lutheran Church in Brookings, SD. Following marriage the couple resided in Lincoln, NE, where her husband completed his B.S. degree.

They lived in Detroit, MI, from 1947-49; Hibbing, MN, 1949-55; Ironwood, MI, from 1955-58; Perry, IA, from 1958-1963. The couple moved to Milbank in 1963. They owned and operated Wilson Department Store from 1963-1985.

Music had been therapy for Virginia throughout her life, be it participating or listening. She enjoyed sharing her home, her food, and her flowers with family and many friends.

The American Lutheran Church altar linens have had her care for thirty years. She was involved in her church home in many activities.
She was also an active member of the Milbank Area Hospital Auxiliary-the Pink Ladies for twenty years and volunteered for many local programs.

Her most cherished time was at home with her children, their families, relatives, and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Dr. Jack Wilson and wife Patricia, Watertown, SD; Dr. Mark Wilson and wife Mary, Gilbert, AZ; and Mary Shannon and husband Bill, of Minnetonka, MN; six grandchildren: Jacqueline Pospisil and husband Keith, Lakeville, MN; James Wilson, of Webster, SD; Amanda Fox and husband Rick, Rapid City, SD; Timothy Wilson of Gilbert, AZ; and Alex Wilson and Danielle Wilson, both of Watertown, SD; two step grandsons, Rob Bolger and wife Allison, of Sioux Falls, SD, and Joseph Bolger, of Vermillion, SD; four great grandchildren: Jenica, Megan, and Collin Pospisil, of Lakeville and Bailey Fox, of Rapid City, SD; one brother, Robert Hallstrom, and wife Beverly, of Megalia, CA; two sisters-in-law, Irene Hallstrom, of Webster, SD, and Patricia Hallstrom, of Hidden Valley, AZ; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of friends.

Loved ones who preceded Virginia in death were her parents, husband, and two brothers, Duane and David Hallstrom.
