Virginia Karels, age 90, of Ortonville died on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at Northridge Residence in Ortonville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Ortonville with Father Jack Nordick celebrating the Mass. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville and for one hour prior to the time of Mass at the church on Monday. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mound Cemetery.
Virginia Rose Karels was born on March 1, 1924, in Milbank, SD to Frank and Martha (Stolpman) Karels. She attended school in Rosen through the 6th grade before moving to Ortonville at the age of 12. She graduated from Ortonville High School.
Virginia was well known around Ortonville, having worked at the Electrik Maid Bakery for 50 years. She also sold tickets at the Orpheum Theatre and the Sioux Historic Pavillion. She loved taking care of children and enjoyed babysitting for numerous families in the neighborhood until she was in her 80s. She also loved to dance, especially the polka, but her greatest passion was traveling. She enjoyed going on bus trips and traveling the world. Virginia was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Catholic Aid Society.
Virginia died on October 1, 2014, at Northridge Residence in Ortonville, having reached the age of 90.
Left to cherish her memory are her cousins; adopted grandchildren: Drew, Bethany, and Connor Danielson; and many dear friends who were blessed to be a part of Virginia's "family."
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Martha Karels; and her sister, Eileen Haynes.
