Vincent Valerin Chalupnik was born in New Hradec, North Dakota to parents Joseph and Emilye (Honz) Chalupnik where he was raised on a farm north of town. Vince was baptized and confirmed in the catholic faith in New Hradec and attended country school until the 8th grade.
On December 27, 1938, Vincent was united in marriage with Anna Steffan. They moved immediately to Minnesota, living on a farm near Benson for two years before renting a farm west of Collis, MN. In 1946, Vince and Anna purchased their home place east of Graceville, where they farmed and raised their family.
Vince moved into the Grace Village in Graceville in 2009, which quickly became his "home". When Vince became ill shortly before his death, it was his wish to be able to stay in his home. His wish was fulfilled and he passed away with his family at his side.
Vince was a loving husband, taking care of his wife at their home after she had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He was a loving Dad to their three sons and the best Grandpa in the world, making each grandchild feel special and perfect. Vince worked hard but he also knew how to enjoy life to the fullest. He was strong and gentle, kind and caring. He was optimistic by nature, never complaining.
His faith was very important to him; he prayed the Rosary everyday, whether it was at home or in the vehicle. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville, Catholic Workman and the Knights of Columbus.
Vince enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, visiting, puzzles and farming. He loved being with people and cherished the time that he spent with his grandchildren.
Vince passed away at his home on Monday, November 19, 2012; he had lived to reach the age of 96 years.
Vince is survived by his sons: Edward (Karen) Chalupnik of Brooklyn Park, MN and Francis (Mary) Chalupnik of Graceville, MN; 7 grandchildren (Steve, Shelly, Denise, Amy, Rebecca, Rachel and Claire); 9 great-grandchildren (Kristine, Nicole, Jessica, Bobby, Melissa, Emily, Joshua, Isabella, and Stephanie); one sister Emma Privratski of Dickinson, ND and other extended family and friends.
Vince is preceded in death by his wife, Anna; son Robert; parents Joseph and Emilye; brothers: Steve, Joe, Tony, Laudie, Frank and Henry and sisters: Mary Schultz and Rose Karsky.
