Verna Duffield

December 18, 1919 — March 21, 2013

Verna Duffield passed away at Water's Edge in Hayward, WI on March 21, 2013. Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Browns Valley at 2:00pm on Tuesday, March 26 with Pastor Anna Williamson officiating. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.
Laverna Grace Rogness was born on the family farm in rural Wilmot, SD on December 18, 1919, to Ole and Anna (Lundeen) Rogness. She attended the elementary grades in a one-room country school and graduated from Wilmot High School. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Wilmot.
After high school graduation, Verna worked as a nanny in California and on the assembly line at Lockheed Martin in California. After returning to the Midwest, she worked for Roberts County and later as a waitress at a cafe in Browns Valley, where she met Clare Duffield. Verna and Clare were united in marriage in Minneapolis on October 10, 1943 and were the parents of Barbara, Connie and David. Verna and Clare made their home in Browns Valley and had spent 63 loving years together when Clare passed away in 2006.
Verna was a faithful member of the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church and UMPW, and was a member of the Eastern Star. Her many-year membership in the Jolly Homemakers Extension Club provided her with many dear friends and happy memories. Verna's love of her family knew no bounds. She was one of the kindest people to ever grace the planet, loved every baby she ever laid eyes on, and nursed countless sickly animals back to health. Anyone who ever had the pleasure of tasting Verna's homemade bread or Norwegian egg coffee knows that she was a master of both…and the number of children she treated to homemade goodies when they came to ride horses on the Duffield farm can't be counted. There was always room for at least one more at Verna's table when it was mealtime. She was a gracious hostess and a wonderful cook. Family and friends were the lucky recipients of the bounty that came from her garden each year. Verna and Clare enjoyed card parties with friends and spent several winters in Texas as snowbirds after their retirement.
Cherishing Verna's memory are daughters: Barbara (Lanny) Peickert of Hayward, WI, and Connie Clark of Maple Grove, MN; son, David (Candy) Duffield of Browns Valley; grandchildren: Ann Peterson, Ross (Corinne) Peickert, Ryan Peickert, Cameron Clark, Connor Clark, Eric Duffield, Steven Duffield and Lindsey Duffield; great-granddaughter, Megan Peterson; sister, Bonnie Rogness; sisters-in-law: Lillian Rogness, Donna Duffield and Patti (Marty) Kyro; brothers-in-law: Alan Duffield and Jim Dady; and many nieces and nephews.
Verna was preceded in death by her husband Clare; parents, Ole and Anna Rogness; in-laws, Arthur and Viola Duffield; sisters: Elsie Frey and Mabel Rogness; brothers: Wilfred Rogness and Elmer Rogness; brothers-in-law: Fred Frey, Ward Duffield, Lee Duffield, Stan Duffield and Bill Duffield; and sisters-in-law: Nita Duffield, Gertrude Duffield, Fonty Dady and Diane Duffield.
Condolences can be sent to David Duffield, Box 301, Browns Valley, MN 56219.
Heaven has welcomed a beautiful angel.
