Funeral services for Vance Buri, age 86, of Milbank, will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at the Central United Methodist Church in Milbank. The Reverend Dr. DeVern Schwenn and the Reverend Mark Chapman (of the LaBolt Covenant Church) will officiate. Vance died on Monday, July 28, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Milbank. Family members are asked to meet in the church parlor/library by 1:30 p.m. Thursday to attend services. The organist will be Sherry DeBoer and the soloist will be Paul D. Peterson accompanied by Linda Chapman. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m., followed by a prayer service for family and friends. There will also be visitation in the church one hour prior to his funeral service. Pallbearers will be Warren Berg, Kevin Berg, Jerry Bury, Darrel Lindahl, Gary Ellingson, and Ben Johnson. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be directed to the LaBolt Covenant Church in LaBolt, SD.
Vance B. Buri was born on December 23, 1921, in Milbank, SD, the son of Henry and Bessie (Kienholz) Buri. He attended country school. Vance was united in marriage to Ilene Seefert on June 6, 1945. Following marriage, they lived in the Revillo, SD, vicinity. Ilene died on February 2, 1985. Vance married Nadeane (Englund) Tiesing on September 21, 1986, in Portland, Oregon. The couple resided in Milbank following their marriage.
He farmed in the LaBolt, Revillo, Milbank, area. He was a rancher who took great pride in his Angus cattle and was a member of the American Angus Association.
Vance was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Milbank and was a former Sunday school teacher and choir member.
He was a "fun" person who was very witty. Vance was a great story teller of life experiences.
Survivors include his wife Nadeane and one son Doug and his wife Linda, all of Milbank; one stepson, Scot Tiesing, Sacramento, CA; and two stepdaughters, Paulette Lytle and husband Tom, Portland, OR, and Annette Walenta and husband Nick, of Rapid City, SD; two step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Erickson, Watertown, SD, and Marge Rous, Dade City, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Ilene, one brother James, and two sisters, Doris and Lois.
