Tim Olson

Tim Olson, age 59, of Drayton, ND, formerly of Milan, MN, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

There will be two separate celebrations of life for Tim. The first will be held on September 23, 2023, at Zoo Bar in Drayton, ND, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The second will be held on October 7, 2023, at the home of Jinny Olson in Bemidji, MN, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (or later).

Timothy Donald Olson was born on January 11, 1964, in Minneapolis, MN, to Donald and Virginia “Jinny” (Marken) Olson. He attended school in Milan, MN, and graduated from Milan High School.

In 1981, Tim joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for 10 years and was honorably discharged in 1991.

Following high school in August of 1982, Tim was united in marriage with Kim Fokken. They were blessed with two daughters: Trisha Rae on February 1, 1983, and Tonya Renae on March 25, 1988.

Tim was the epitome of the “working man”. He always worked at places where he could get dirty and he could wear his jeans and tennis shoes! Tim worked at Hatton Co-Op Oil in Hatton, ND, Wally’s Oil in Shevlin, MN; and started working for Canadian Pacific Railroad in June of 2004 and was currently still working there as an engineer.

On February 12, 2000, Tim was united in marriage with Laurie Rootes and together they were blessed with one daughter, Jaimee Marie on January 25, 2001.

Tim worked hard and played harder. He was good at giving people lots of grief but would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it. Tim loved to travel and visiting friends on his motorcycle. He really loved vacationing to Mexico and was planning to retire there. Most of all, Tim loved his children and grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. He enjoyed spending time with them and attending all of their activities.

In 2020, Tim met Nicole Brown. The two were planning a life together and were recently engaged to be married. They shared a loved for each other, their children and grandchildren, and traveling.

Left to cherish the memory of Tim are his daughters: Trish Mikelson (Ryan Avdem) of Thompson, ND; Tonya (Jason) Fairchild of Grand Forks, ND; and Jaimee Rootes-Olson of Bemidji, MN; step-children: James Knudson, Natasha Knudson, and JJ Knudson all of Drayton, ND; six grandchildren: MaKenna Mikelson, Mason Mikelson, Mak Mikelson, Jailin Avdem, Dex Avdem, and Lexus Olson; mother, Jinny Olson of Bemidji, MN; sisters: Donna (Dick) Hesselink of Deer Park, WI; Tammy (Joe) Neubauer of Odessa, MN; and Tracey (Brent) Schroeder of Cosmos, MN; brothers: Jeff Olson of Bemidji, MN; and Tom (Trish) Olson of Osceola, WI; brother and sister-in-law, Nathanial and Amber Brown of Drayton, ND; father and mother-in-law, Peter and Bonnie Brown of Drayton, ND; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceding him in death were his fiancé, Nicole Brown; father, Donald Olson; son-in-law, Jake Mikelson; brother, Randy Olson; and sister-in-law, Cindy Olson.
