Sylvia Meta Rakow was born on August 19, 1923 to August and Meta (Mueller) Rakow at there home in Odessa, Minnesota. Sylvia was baptized and confirmed in Odessa at the former Yellowbank Church. She attended country school in Yellowbank Township until the 8th grade.
On November 19, 1944, Sylvia was united in marriage to Milton Pinkert in Odessa, MN. To this union two sons were born. They made there home in Grant County, South Dakota. This continued to be Sylvia’s home until 1997, one year after Milton’s death, when she moved into Ortonville living at the Home Rite Apartments, Fairway View and then Northridge Residence.
In her life, Sylvia worked at the canning factory, at the Ortonville Hospital, St. Williams in Milbank and Northridge Residence in the Housekeeping Department. She also volunteered at the nursing home. She liked to entertain and would often have card parties at her home. She played the piano, guitar and mandolin all by ear. She enjoyed traveling, and camping and fishing.
Sylvia died on November 22, 2009 at Northridge Residence in Ortonville, having lived to reach the age of 86.
She is survived in death by her son Ron (Rosemary) Pinkert of Big Stone City, SD; grandchildren Scott (Jenny) Pinkert of Big Stone City; Tracy (Kim) Pinkert of Milbank, SD, Paul Pinkert of Big Stone City, SD, Dawn (Scott) Boerger of Milbank, SD; great-grandchildren Justin (Katy), Kaitlyn, Kaylee, Lexi, Jesse, Kayla and Zachary Pinkert, Taylor and Doninique Boerger and many nieces and nephews.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one infant son.
