Sylvia Olson

January 6, 1926 — March 24, 2006

Sylvia V. Olson was born on January 6, 1926 in Tintah, MN to parents Andrew and Adelia Miller. She grew up in a household that only spoke German, learning English in grade school. Sylvia met Roy on her family?s farm in 1940 while the two were on their way to a dance. Sylvia caught Roy?s eye, and on September 25, 1942 the two were united in marriage at the courthouse in Webster, SD. To this union three children were born, Kathy, Larry and Linda.

Sylvia and Roy initially made their home in Wendell, MN, then moved on to Baraboo, WI before returning to Wendell and then finally to Johnson, MN. While living in Johnson, Sylvia opened the Olson CafAA and was known for her homemade pies and sweet rolls. She then worked for several years at the Holy Trinity Hospital in Graceville as a Nurse?s Assistant caring for patients. Upon retirement, Sylvia and Roy moved became snow birds, spending half of their time in Arizona and half in Minnesota. Sylvia and Roy celebrated sixty-three years together before his passing in November 2005.

She was a very easy going woman and lenient mother who loved her children dearly. Sylvia was naturally musically talented, being able to pick up nearly any instrument and after a few minutes of practice being able to play it, but she would only play in private since she did not think she was too good. Sylvia was also very good at craft projects, crocheting and creating many needle point creations.

Sylvia passed away Friday, March 24, 2006 at the Grace Home in Graceville, MN. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Roy; her son, Larry; parents, Andrew and Adelia; four sisters, Mabel, Agnes, Laura, and Hannah; and her brother, Ted.

Sylvia is survived by her two daughters, Kathy (Andre) Faber of Prescott Valley, AZ and Linda (Larry) Spaulding of Johnson, MN; eight grandchildren, Jeffery (Stacy) Spaulding, Adam (Nuttaya) Spaulding, Kyle Spaulding, Ryan Spaulding, Kim (John) Mills, John Fischer, Douglas (Kristie) Olson and Jody Olson; eleven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jenna and Colton Spaulding, Michaela and Melissa Spaulding, Mackenzie Spaulding, Loren, Adian and Evan Villar, Abbygail and Cassandra Olson, as well as many other extended family and friends.
