Stanley B. Mack was born on July 2, 1916 in Summit Township, Steel County, MN, to Thomas and Nicolena (Larson) Mack. Stanley Spent his early years in Ellendale and Owatonna, MN, starting school there. The family moved then moved to rural Ortonville and Stanley attended country school there. In later years that building housed the KDIO radio station. The family then moved into the city of Ortonville, where Stanley finished his schooling.



In 1940 Stanley joined the National Guard and was sent to Camp Claiborne, Louisiana, and then to Fort Dix, New Jersey for training. The unit was then sent to Ireland to wait deployment to North Africa. While in Africa, in addition to combat against the Germans, Stanley served in the military police. From Africa, they were sent to Italy. While in Italy, he was wounded twice and for this he received a purple heart and two oak leaf clusters. During his military service he obtained the rank of Tech. Sgt. He returned home December 24, 1944.



On June 4, 1945, he married Luella Baumgartner of Ortonville, to this union two daughters were born.



During his working years, he worked for Wallace Burdick and his son Gene Burdick. He then went to work for Amberg Motors, retiring from there after 33 years of service.



Stanley enjoyed life on Big Stone Lake and the home that he and his wife of 59 years built together. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, antique engines, going to threshing bees, restoring and running his 1916 Altman Taylor, and just enjoying life in general.



On Saturday, July 10, 2004, Stan died at the Ortonville Hospital at the age of 88.



Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Floyd, Lester, and Earl; and one sister, Edna Mulhall.



Survivors include his wife, Luella of Ortonville; daughters, LaRae and Thomas Schaffer of Lakeville, MN; Florene and LeRoy Westphal of Hackensack, MN; three sisters, Margie Robertson of Lawndale,CA, Dorothy Bobb of Anza, CA, and Doris Mueller of Ortonville, MN; grandchildren, Darin Schaffer, Tami Stellick, Heidi Schaffer, Kerri Kopecky, Steffanie Call, Danielle Draeger, and Lucas Draeger; 10 Great Grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends.
