Shirley Vogt

August 31, 1938 — September 27, 2009

Shirley Rose Fuhrman was born August 31, 1938, to Walter and Louise (Zimmerman) Fuhrman in Graceville, MN. She was baptized on November 6, 1938, by Pastor Albrecht at Trinity Lutheran Church. Shirley grew up on a farm near Graceville, MN. She attended Trinity Lutheran Parochial School until the 8th grade. She was confirmed on May 25, 1952 by Pastor Kuske at Trinity Lutheran Church. She then attended Doctor Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN for grades 9-12.

On March 8, 1958, Shirley was united in marriage to Robert Vogt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Johnson by Pastor Janke. To this union, they were blessed with three children: Barbara, David and Beth. Robert and Shirley made their home on a farm south of Johnson where they farmed and raised their family for nearly 40 years.

Shirley was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church where she served with the Ladies Aide, attended Bible class and volunteered whenever she was needed. She was a member of TOPS, where she was the “biggest loser.” Shirley’s hobbies include many crafts: sewing, knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint, cross-stitch, stamping and quilting. She made patchwork jean quilts for her grandchildren. Shirley also enjoyed gardening, baking and cooking. One of her greatest enjoyments was shopping and, yes, she did manage to get locked in a mall one evening.

Shirley and Robert enjoyed fishing, camping, and playing cards with their friends. Robert died on February 4, 2009.

Shirley was a resident at Grace Home where she had been for the last 3 ½ years. While there, she enjoyed anything with music, ice cream floats, and spending time with the residents and staff. Her smile would light up any room!

Shirley died on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the Grace Home in Graceville having lived to reach the age of 71.

Shirley is survived by her children Barbara (Duane) Moeller of Duluth, MN, David (Diane) Vogt of Chokio, MN, and Beth (Tom) Kock of Johnson City, TN; 10 grandchildren: Stephanie (Eric) Kiero of Duluth, MN, Joshua Moeller of Fargo, ND, Emily Moeller of Moorhead, MN, Rebecca Vogt of Mankato, MN, Kayla Vogt of Moorhead, MN, Nathan Vogt of Chokio, MN, Daniel Kock of Knoxville, TN, Carissa Kock of Watertown, WI, Jonathan Kock of Watertown, WI, and Adam Kock of Johnson City, TN; one great-grandson: Evan Kiero of Duluth, MN; sisters: Norma Damerow, Laverna Nelson, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws: Jane (Eugene) Fuhrman and Orrin (Linda) Cole, Marlene Fuhrman; nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
