Shirley Krueger

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville. Pastor David Tonn will lead a prayer service beginning at 6:45 p.m. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Mound Cemetery in Ortonville.

Shirley Irene (Mathison) Krueger, age 79, died on January 17, 2020. Shirley is survived by her son, Joseph Krueger of Minneapolis; daughter-in-law, Lynn; and grandson, Nathanael. She is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Carol (Saeger) Mathison; and special friend, Lester Hanson.

Shirley was born on July 21, 1940, in Ortonville, MN. She graduated from Ortonville High School and the Minnesota School of Business. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church and never missed a service on KDIO. Shirley worked as a Clerk of Courts for several years then worked at Cenex as the assistant office manager up until she had a disabling stroke in 1980.

Shirley was a loving mother to Joe and companion to her special friend, Lester Hanson. Lester was devoted to Shirley and together, they enjoyed a good laugh and a warm cup of green tea. Shirley was intelligent, resilient, and approached life with common sense.

Shirley had a deep love for nature, wildlife, and the environment. She enjoyed feeding and watching birds in her yard and tending to a vegetable garden when she was able. Shirley had a much-loved horse at a Scherer's Stable in Ortonville when she was young.

Despite health challenges, she followed politics and national events with a keen eye. She lived in the house her father helped build. She lovingly cared for her parents in their final years. She enjoyed working with the local Ortonville residents when she was Clerk of Court and Assistant Office Manager at Cenex. Despite limited resources, she helped people when she could. Shirley’s health challenges would have deterred others, but she was thankful for her blessings.
