Shawn Murphy, age 34, of Graceville died Friday, January 2, 2015, as the result of a motor vehicle accident.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville. Father Jack Nordick will celebrate the Mass with Father David Breu concelebrating. Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with a prayer service to follow at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will follow at a later date in the Graceville Consolidated Cemetery.
Music will be provided by Deb Farwell, Deb Stueve, Chris Weick, and Jean Costello. Casket bearers will be Aaron Fuhrman, Bobby Buhl, Ezekiel Johnson, Clint Gilsdorf, Danny Herberg, Michael Murphy, Scott Gilsdorf, Paul Arens, Joey Stroman, Derek Maher, Joe McLain, and Steve Gary.
Shawn Charles Murphy was born on August 20, 1980, in Graceville to Charles Joseph and Kim Celeste (Doll) Murphy. He was baptized in Barry, MN and confirmed by Father Jack Nordick in Graceville. He graduated from Graceville High School with the class of 1998 and then furthered his education, receiving an Associates of Carpentry, Railroad Conductor Certificate, and Helicopter Pilot Certificate. Shawn previously worked at Gilsdorf Farms and G&K Bales. He was currently employed at BNSF out of Willmar.
On November 24, 2012, Shawn was united in marriage to Leslie Ann Flores. Shawn loved spending time with his family and adored his children, Jason and Kimber. He also took great pleasure in setting up pirate treasures for Kimber and his nephews. Shawn enjoyed being outdoors: hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. He was a member of the NRA and held a concealed carry permit.
Shawn is survived by his wife, Leslie Murphy; children, Jason Collin and Kimber Sirah; mother and step-father, Kim and Gary Simonson; sisters: Sarah Jo, Emily Ann, Candace Lynn, and Elissa Jean; nieces and nephews: Alexander, Christian, Jayden, and Nevaeh; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Murphy; brother, Colby John Simonson; uncle, Don Murphy; and beloved friends, Jerry Littou, and Stub.
