Ruth Torgerson, 94, of Big Stone City, South Dakota, died on July 6, 2014.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 11, at 11:00 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN with Rev. David Tonn officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Big Stone City, SD.
Ruth Lillian Torgerson was born on July 9, 1919, in Big Bend Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota to Edward and Agnes (Angrimson) Erickson. She graduated from Milan High School in 1938. On December 20, 1938, Ruth was united in marriage with Arthur Torgerson in the Immanuel Lutheran Church parsonage in Watson, Minnesota. To this union two sons were born.
Ruth and Arthur made their home in Big Stone City, South Dakota where she was a homemaker until 1965. For eight years she worked at the Frigo Cheese Factory and then was employed for 11 years in the Big Stone School lunch room. Arthur died on January 30, 1984.
Ruth enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting, hunting, fishing, canning and baking, especially lefse making. She loved time spent visiting with family and friends.
Ruth died on July 6, 2014, in Ortonville, Minnesota, having reached the age of 94.
Left with her memory are her sons: Rodney (Vicky) Torgerson and John (Joanne) Torgerson, all of Big Stone City, SD; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Arlene Poppe and Loretta Lange, both of Montevideo, MN; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters: Leona Frank and Verna Norby; and her brother Albert "Bill" Erickson.
