Graveside services for former Strandburg, SD, resident, Mrs. Ruby V. Bergman, age 100, of South Burlington, VT, will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, in the Bethany Baptist Cemetery, rural Strandburg, SD. The Reverend Bill Damberg will officiate. Ruby died on Monday, April 24, 2006, at her home in South Burlington. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Monday from 7-9 p.m. Pallbearers will be family members. Memorial contributions in Ruby's name may be made to the Missionary Gospel Fellowship, 264 West Main St., Turlock, CA 95380 or to the Visiting Nurse Association, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT 05446. The Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home of Milbank is in charge of the arrangements.
Ruby was born on June 26, 1905, in Bronson, Iowa, the daughter of Joel and Mary Collins. She graduated from Dawson High School and Teacher's Normal Training in Dawson, MN. She taught elementary school in Dawson, MN, Strandburg, SD, and Turlock, CA. Ruby also taught instrumental and vocal music for ten years at Strandburg High School.
She was united in marriage to Paul W. Peterson on July 11, 1929. Paul died in 1963. She married Carl Bergman of Turlock, CA, on June 25, 1966. He died in 1982.
Ruby was well known for her musical ability, serving for over thirty years as church pianist of the Bethel Baptist Church in Strandburg and teaching piano to many students in her home.
Ruby's life was characterized by her strong Christian faith, her love of family and friends, and her gentle, quiet spirit. She has left many with fond memories of her wonderful cooking abilities, including her roast beef dinners, her "Ruby Rolls", and Swedish traditional dishes.
She is survived by two sons, James Peterson and wife Neysa, Williston, VT, and Jack Peterson and wife Glenrose, Rogersville, MO; two daughters, Joann Peterson, South Burlington, VT, and Gloria Healy and husband Albert, Colchester, VT; her stepchildren: Ethelyn Robison, Santa Cruz, CA; Lorraine Bergman, Sun City, AZ; Rosalie Sennett, San Francisco, CA, and Wayne Bergman and wife Nita, Sun City, AZ; seventeen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; one sister, Vivian Jenkins, Deland, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, three sisters, and one brother.
