Rose Gath

Funeral Services for Rose Gath will be on Monday, August 22, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Father David Breu will be officiating and burial will be in the St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery.

Rose Margaret Hemmer was born on January 26, 1913 to parent Nicholas and Katherine (Schmit) Hemmer in Wilmont, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the catholic faith and grew up in the Luverne, MN area. She attended country schools until the 8th grade.

On February 14, 1931, Rose was united in marriage to Otto Gath in Lismore, MN. To this union, they were blessed with two children: Lloyd and Violet. They made their home and farmed at Lismore and Luverne, MN until moving to rural Beardsley in 1948 where they continued to farm until they moved into Browns Valley in 1969. After Otto's death in 1972, Rose worked as a seamstress at Dacotah Quilting in the Valley and in Sisseton.

Rose was a wonderful quilter and sewer; she could remake almost anything to fit. She made many quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved bingo; she would travel all over to play. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially Kings on the Corner. She was a member of the Christian Mothers.

Rose passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Browns Valley Health Care Center in Browns Valley; she had lived to reach the age of 98 years.

Rose is survived by her children: Lloyd (Dorothea Brightman) Gath of McGregor, MN and Violet Schlidt of Browns Valley, MN; 8 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchilren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Elnora Snow of Blue Springs, MO, Caroline Sibson of Graceville, MN and Jenny (Harlan Weise) Fields of Madison, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose is preceded in death by her parents Nicholas and Katherine Hemmer; husband Otto; daughter-in-law Alberta Gath; son-in-law Donald Schlidt; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
