Ronald Meyer

Ronald Edward Meyer, the son of Edward Michael and Irene (Scurlock) Meyer, was born June 14, 1946 in Little Falls, MN. Ron was baptized and confirmed in Buckman, MN at the Catholic Church. He attended school in Buckman, Randall and graduated from Little Falls in 1964. Ron grew up on a farm east of Buckman, MN. His parents bought the land and put up all the buildings. In 1953, after loosing the dairy herd to bangs disease, Ron and his family moved into Little Falls, MN and lived in town until 1959. In 1959 they bought the farm west of Randall MN. Ron worked at Camp Ripley following graduation. Ron went to college at St. Cloud State the fall of 1964, completed one year, worked at Camp Ripley the summer of 1965, and went back for fall and winter quarter. Ron joined the US Air Force, April 19, 1966. He attended boot camp at San Antonio, Texas, for 6 weeks. He then was stationed in Biloxi Mississippi, and then went to Clark Air Force Base, Philippines. He went back and forth between Viet Nam and Clark AFB twice. After leaving Clark he was stationed in Topeka, KS and went back to Viet Nam again. Then going back to Topeka, KS was discharged January 1970.
Ron started working May 4, 1970 for Northwestern Bell Telephone in Cambridge, MN. (The name changed to US West, and then Qwest). Ron was united in marriage to Donna Becker April 29, 1972. Ron also started farming his father-in-law’s farm near Cambridge in the spring of 1977. He purchased more land and continued farming and working for the phone company. The last crop harvested was fall of 2006. After his retirement from Qwest May 19, 2006, Ron and Donna purchased a home in Beardsley, MN, March of 2007. Ron continued to enjoy farming through his son Matt who farmed and custom harvested and he helped Matt when needed.
Ron died Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Graceville Hospital. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
Survivors include: wife, Donna of Beardsley, MN; sons, Mark (Shantel) of Sioux Falls, S.D, Matt (Leah) of Beardsley, MN, Tim (Colleen) of Mounds View, MN; one grandson, Oliver; mother-in-law, Ila Becker, brother, Jeffrey (Barb) Meyer of Sartell, MN; sister, Eloise Richmond of Ryder, N.D; brothers–in–law Curt (Mavis) Becker of Cambridge, MN, Joel (April) Becker of Beardsley, MN; sisters–in–law, Denice Becker of Cambridge, MN, Jean Becker of Braham, MN.
He is preceded in death by his infant son Craig; parents; father- in-law Herbert Becker; niece, Janet Becker and brother- in- law, Kenneth Richmond
