Robert James Wiegman was born on December 8, 1929, at his home in Tara Township in Traverse County, MN, to Leo and Sophie (Snyder) Wiegman. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Collis, MN. Robert attended St. Mary’s Academy and graduated in 1947.
On April 26, 1951, Robert was drafted into the United States Army and was sent overseas during the Korean Conflict. Two years later, in 1953, he was honorably discharged from the Army and went back to help his brother, Clem, on their farm in Traverse County. On January 31, 1992, Robert was united in marriage with Ruth (Kruger) Wilson and the two made their home in Graceville, MN, until Ruth’s death on October 4, 2008. He moved into Grace Village on April 8, 2017, and resided there until his health started to decline.
Robert was a quiet, gentle man who was not afraid of work. He farmed with his brother, Clem, and later worked at the cheese factory in Big Stone City, SD, for many years. He was an active, long-time member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville and served as an usher for many years, receiving the Bishop’s Medal of Service for his dedication. Bob was a life-long member of Knights of Columbus and was also a member of the Graceville Gun Club. He always had a smile on his face and a willingness to help others. He was very devoted to his family, taking care of his mother until the time of her death, and spent as much time as he could visiting with his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, sharing the fruits of his labors with everyone. Bob enjoyed visiting with “the guys” at Grace Village and reminiscing about the time they spent in military service.
Robert is survived by his sister, Phyllis Bauer of Graceville, MN; sister-in-law, Laurie Wiegman of Graceville, MN; along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Ruth Wiegman; brothers: Clem Wiegman and Delbert Wiegman; and sisters: Pat Keltgen and Jean Matthews.
