Robert Thompson, age 78, of Ortonville, passed away at his home on May 23, 2012. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville. There will be visitation Friday evening, May 25, from 5 – 7 p.m. with a 6:30 Prayer service, at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Rev. Marlene Elmstrom will officiate and burial will in Mound Cemetery in Ortonville.
Robert Cecil Thompson was born December 17, 1933, in Ortonville, Minnesota. He was the son of Elmer and Anna (Holmblad) Thompson. Robert was baptized and confirmed at Eidskog Lutheran Church and later became a member of First English Lutheran Church. He attended country school in Otrey Township and attended and graduated from Ortonville High School in 1952. On December 26, 1954, Robert was united in marriage to Donna Jean Roder at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville. To this union three children were born.
Following his high school graduation, he began farming with his father. Robert continued to live on the family farm until his death.
Robert was a devoted grandfather! He enjoyed watching his grandchildren and attended all of their activities.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Charles (Carol) Thompson; Gregory (Patricia) Thompson; and Mark "Elmer" (Sheila) Thompson, all of Ortonville; his grandchildren: Nicole (Mike) Lovgren of Ortonville; Tim Thompson of Ortonville; Dan Thompson of Ortonville; Nathan (Leana) Thompson of Lakeville, MN; Natasha Thompson of Mankato, MN; Shane Thompson of Moorhead, MN; RaeAnn Thompson of Ortonville; Riley Thompson of Ortonville; his great-grandchildren: Ava Lovgren, Chase Lovgren, and Samantha Thompson; his brother, Ervin (Arlys) Thompson of Ortonville; his sisters-in-law: Lucille Thompson of Ortonville and Barb Roder of Olympia, WA; special niece Jean (Russ) Wall of Victoria, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna; and brothers and sisters.
