Uncle Bob, Robert Roy Peterson has left us to join his heavenly father. He will be sorely missed by his family, his second family of wonderful staff and residents at Northridge, and the students of Ortonville High School for whom he was their biggest booster.
Robert Roy Peterson was born on November 23, 1924, in Sherborn, MN, to parents, John Alfonso and Hazel Dell Peterson. As a young boy, Bob attended grade school in Alberta, MN, before his family moved to Ortonville, MN, where he completed his education at Ortonville High School, graduating in June of 1942. Following high school, Bob attended college at St. Olaf and Concordia.
Bob was a true believer in the Ortonville community and its youth. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ where he served as a choir member his entire life, taught Sunday school, and was also secretary/treasurer for the Sunday school classes. Bob also served his church as an advisor to Pilgrim Fellowship, member of Church Choir Council, Headwaters Parish Council, and Big Stone Lake Area Council of Churches. Bob also enjoyed being a member of many community groups such as the Ortonville Male Chorus, the Civic Band as a clarinet player, Ortonville Jaycees, where he served as treasurer/secretary, State Director, and attended Seven National Conventions. Bob was also involved in the Cornfest Corn Line, Hymn song leader at Northridge, Bus Escort at Northridge, as well as volunteering for many activities at the Senior Center such as RSVP, Prairie Five, and the Senior Link Program. Bob was also a member of the Masonic Lodge where he served as Worshipful Master.
In his spare time, Bob enjoyed following events held at Ortonville School. He was a loyal sports fan and very seldom missed a game. In honor of his school spirit, The 1978 Ortonville School Yearbook, was dedicated to Bob.
Robert Peterson passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at the Ortonville Hospital. He had reached the age of 80 years. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, John and Hazel; sister Vera Ellefson; and two brothers, Phil Peterson and John Peterson.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Anne Peterson; nephew, James A. Peterson, and Nieces, Carol Lerberg and Phyllis Anne Stapp.
