Robert Layman

Robert Howells Layman was born on October 2, 1930 to parents Earl and Della (Bump) Layman in Graceville, MN. He was one of thirteen children to them. Robert grew up in Graceville where he attended the Graceville Schools, graduating with the class of 1950.
After graduating high school, Bob worked for Hank Ritter Carpentry. On March 30, 1951, Robert joined the Armed Forces where he was a member of the 5th Calvary Regiment serving in Okinawa, Japan. He was honorably discharged on March 6th of 1953. After the military, Bob returned home and managed Standard Lumber Yard. He moved to Amiret, MN, where he worked at the Amiret Lumber Company. He met LaVonne Ewy and they were married on October 29, 1960 in West Brook, MN at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Before they started their family, Bob enjoyed bowling and motorcycle trips. In fact, they were members of the Lyon County Motorcycle Club. To this union, they were blessed with three children: Linda, Kevin and Curtis.
In February of 1977, the family moved to Graceville, MN. Robert worked and managed the Graceville Lumber Yard, and then worked as a custodian at the Graceville High School, and then in "retirement" he worked part-time at the Graceville Golf Course until he fully retired in 2002.
Robert enjoyed several things, including: golf, gardening, reading, watching westerns, woodwork projects in the garage. They also spent quality family time on several camping trips and rodeos while the children were growing up.
Robert passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Grace Home in Graceville, MN. He had lived to reach the age of 80 years.
Robert is survived by his son: daughter Linda Layman of St. Cloud, MN and significant other Dennis Murray of Graceville MN; son Curtis (Donna) Layman of Graceville, MN; grandchildren: Chelsea Layman of Graceville, MN; Derek Patterson of Ortonville, MN; and Ashley Layman of St. Cloud, MN and sisters: Jean (Chet) Setterlund, Edna Reichmuth, Maryann (Marvin) Weick, Joan (Paul) Wawers, Ethel (Jim) Phalen, Claire Marie (Alvin) Beck.
