Robert Lewis Hills was born on May 26, 1929, to Ore and Hazel (Doschadis) Hills in Beardsley, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith in Beardsley. Duck attended Barry Country School until the eighth grade. Duck enlisted into the United States Army and was serving during the Korean Conflict although he never served in the war.
On February 11, 1961, Duck was united in marriage to Jeanette Reed at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Browns Valley, MN. To this union, they were blessed with two children: Kerri and Rob “Boo”. In his early years, Duck was employed by Duininck Road Construction and Kaus Trucking. He was later employed by the city of Beardsley working as both the city maintenance man and also the city cop.
Duck was quite the story teller; he enjoyed playing cards with his granddaughters, and he also collected John Deere tractors. He was an avid Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings fan and he was a member of the Beardsley American Legion.
Robert died on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at MeritCare in Fargo, North Dakota, having lived to reach the age of 80 years.
Duck is survived by his son Rob “Boo” Hills of Beardsley, MN; daughter Kerri (Tom) Herberg; of Beardsley, MN, granddaughters: Melissa (Eric) Christianson of Fergus Falls, MN and Ann Herberg of Beardsley, MN; siblings: Bonnie (Jerry) Hendricks of Alexandria, MN, Larry Hills of Beardsley, MN, Carol (Dean) Palmer of Barnesville, MN, Linda Sibson of Moorhead, MN, Pat (John) Stoick of Hutchinson, MN, Ken (Bitsy) Hills of Kingman, AZ, Genny (Jim) Hennessy of Graceville, MN, Katy (Dale) Sykora of Beardsley, MN, Joyce Bogenreif of Morris, MN, Mary (Willie) Ewert of Fairbault, MN, Arlene (Willie) Duetsch of Eden, SD, Audrey (Elwood) Opitz of Luverne, MN; many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Duck is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one sister; and two brothers-in-law.
