Funeral Services will be on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton. Minister Bev McNeill will be officiating and burial will be at Eids Cemetery in rural Ortonville. Visitation will be Thursday, February 3, 2011 from 5-8:00 PM at Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville with a prayer service at 7:30 PM.
Richard Kermit Thomson was born on February 13, 1938 to Walter and Agnes (Knutson) Thomson. He was born at the Ortonville Hospital, and raised on the family farm.
He was baptized at Eids Lutheran and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran in Clinton. He attended country school Dist. #9 completing grade 6. He continued his education at Ortonville High school in Ortonville graduating with the class of 1956.
After graduating, he married his high school sweetheart Deanna Hintz on Feb. 23, 1957 at First English Church of Ortonville. From this union they were blessed with three children Debra, David, and Paul. Richard and Deanna celebrated 51 years and 11 months of marriage.
Richard farmed all of his life, starting with his father then with his son David. He milked cows until 1997. He went to work for West-Con delivering fertilizer.
Richard was a member of Trinity Lutheran church serving on the council. He was also the Otrey Township treasurer for many years after taking over for his dad. He was on many township Association Boards and committees. He was also a member of the National Farmers Organization.
Richard loved spending time with his family and many friends. There was one thing he could do very well and that was that he like to talk and he could strike up a conversation with anybody anywhere about any topic.
Richard passed away on January 30, 2011 at Holy Trinity Hospital in Graceville, he had lived to reach the age of 72 years.
Richard is survived by his Mother Agnes; children Debra (John) Tomsen, David (Theresa), and Paul (Rose); grandchildren, Mindy, Sophie, Lilly, Justice, Lindsey, David, Paige, Cassandra, Emily, Bradley; brothers Jerome (Millie) Thomson, Ivan (Marina) Thomson, Sister in law Kathy Olsen, Linda Keller, Michelle Hall, Brother in law Eugene Meyer, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and wife.
