Ray Westlund

Ray Westlund, age 55, of Clinton, MN, died on Thursday, February 20, 2020, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Abiding Faith Free Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Pastor Richard Larson will officiate, and interment will take place at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Odessa, MN.

Raymond Edward Westlund, Jr. was born on June 28, 1964, in St. Paul, MN, to Raymond Sr. and Marion (Baker) Westlund. He grew up in the St. Paul area and graduated from Harding High School in 1982. Ray moved around with his family until he settled in the Ortonville area in 2005. He later moved to Clinton, MN, in 2015.

Ray was always a hard worker and worked many occupations. He most enjoyed his work as a custodian at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and in the Mahtomedi, MN, school system.

Following sports of all kinds was one of Ray’s favorite pastimes, especially following all the Minnesota teams like the Vikings, Twins, Wild, and Timberwolves. He loved playing cards, attending the meat raffle on Sundays, listening to music, playing Poker, and could beat anybody in a game of Trivial Pursuit. Ray also enjoyed watching the History and Discovery Channels and having discussions about conspiracy theories. He most enjoyed visiting with his family and loved participating in every activity he could with his children.

Ray is survived by his children: Ashley (Tysen) Cotton of Sioux Falls, SD; Jenna (Dillon) Schlimme of Ortonville, MN; and Travis (Camille) Westlund of Fargo, ND; grandchild, arriving in April 2020, Baby Schlimme; sisters: Dawn Derry of Clinton, MN; and Brandy (Jason) Asher of Stacy, MN; brothers: Kurt (Sandie) Westlund of Big Stone City, SD; and Darrel Henton of St. Paul, MN; mother of their children, Angela Doren; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents; parents; brother-in-law, Paul Derry; and many aunts and uncles.

Ray’s family wishes to thank Marcy, Ann, and all the other healthcare providers who helped Ray live a more independent life at his home.
