Ray Hansen

Funeral services for Ray A. Hansen, age 82, of Wilmot, SD, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot. The Reverend DeVern Schwenn will officiate. Sharon Ammann will be the organist. Ray died on Thursday, April 17, 2008, at the Wilmot Care Center. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home on Sunday from 3-5 p.m. and in the church Monday one hour before the service. Burial will be in the Wilmot Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his grandchildren and friends. Active pallbearers will be Tyler Nordquist, Mike Hansen, Tim Zempel, Lance Nielsen, Marlowe Vreim, Orville Vreim, Al Slaathaug, and Don Quade.

Ray was born July 13, 1925, in rural Roberts County, South Dakota, the son of Hans and Susie (Miller) Hansen. He attended country school and graduated from Wilmot High School. He served our country in the U. S. Navy, primarily in China towards the end of WWII.

He was united in marriage with Donna M. Ferber on November 18, 1952 in Waubay, South Dakota. They farmed and raised cattle in Lee Township, Roberts County, South Dakota until 1998 when they moved into Wilmot. Donna died November 29, 2004.

Ray was a member of the American Legion and the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot.

Survivors include two sons, David Hansen and wife Becky, and James Hansen, all of rural Wilmot, SD; his daughter, Ann Nordquist and husband Randy, Bonner Springs, Kansas; six grandchildren, Jennifer Palmquist, Michael Hansen, Susie Hansen, Elizabeth Hansen, Tyler Nordquist and Betsy Hermreck; three great granddaughters, Grace Hermreck, Addie Mae Hermreck, and Avery Palmquist; two sisters, Grace Wilson, Aberdeen, SD and Dollie Foss, Wilmot SD; three sisters-in-law, Joyce Hansen, Webster, SD, Arlene Hansen, Wilmot, SD, and Gloria Hansen, Thousand Oaks, California; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Peter, five brothers, and one sister.
