Philip G. Peterson, age 92, of Graceville, MN, formerly of Clinton, MN passed away Monday, June 6, 2011, at the Grace Home in Graceville, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 10, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Elim Lutheran Church in Clinton, MN.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the Larson Funeral Home in Clinton from 6-8:00 PM with a Prayer service at 7:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church. Pastor Richard Larson will be officiating and burial will be at the Clinton City Cemetery in Clinton.
Philip Gordon Peterson, the son of Peter and Anna (Anderson) Peterson, was born March 26, 1919, in Almond Township, Big Stone County. He was baptized and confirmed at Elim Lutheran Church where he has been a life time member. He attended grade school in a country school east of Clinton and in Graceville, and then graduated from Clinton High School in 1937.
Philip was united in marriage to Beverly Christians of Milbank, South Dakota. They were blessed with 7 children, 6 girls and 1 boy. They made their home on a farm southeast of Clinton where Philip farmed until 1968. They moved to town and bought Carlsons Grocery store in Clinton from Roy and Grace Carlson. They sold the store in 1977, and Philip worked for Ed Kvatum, Wesley Olson and others helping with farm work.
Philip and Beverly spent winters in Weslaco, Texas for 16 years.
Philip served on the church board, ushered and helped in many ways in the church. He was a volunteer fireman for Clinton for many years. Everyone in the community enjoyed Philips sense of humor.
Philip died June 6, 2011, at the Grace Home. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Elim Church and Alzheimers Foundation.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly of Graceville, MN; seven children, Kay (Marvin) Koosman of Appleton, MN; Diane (Lowell) Zellman of New Ulm, MN; Gloria (Paul) Schultz of Fridley, MN; Cheryl (John) Bain of Clearwater, FL; Gregory (Shelley) Peterson of Starbuck, MN; Pat (Brad) Duhr of Cass Lake, MN; Peggy (Scott) Duske of Buffalo, MN; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; some cousins in Sweden; 1 niece and 1 nephew of Maplewood, MN.
