Funeral Services for Pearl Lundquist will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Tabor Lutheran Church in Strandburg, SD. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 from 5-7:00 PM at Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank. Pastor Elmer Brinkman and Pastor Paul Hanson will be officiating and burial will be in the Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery in Strandburg.
Pearl Irene Woolums was born on September 18, 1918, in Watertown, South Dakota, to parents Bruce and Hulda (Johnson) Woolums. At the age of six weeks, her father, Bruce, contracted the Spanish Flu and died. Hulda never remarried. She attended a one room Country School until the 8th grade. She continued her education at Strandburg High School, graduating with the class on 1936.
After high school, Pearl took the train and worked at Tucks CafAC. in Watertown. Pearl was united in marriage to Sidney Lundquist on September 29, 1936 at Tabor Lutheran Church in Strandburg. They made their home in Strandburg and were blessed with four sons. They purchased a general store and gas station in Strandburg and operated it as a franchise of the Gamble Store Company. They owned it for a total of 38 years. Pearl's mother also owned and operated the CafAC. in town where Pearl worked and helped tremendously.
Pearl was very active in the community, church and school activities. She was a life long member of Tabor Lutheran Church. After the sale of the Gamble Store, Pearl began the Visiting Neighbors Program where she was the coordinator for 15 years. This program won the National County award in 1978 and the National State Award in 1985. She also started many Senior Citizens Centers around the area. Pearl retired in 1988.
Pearl enjoyed many things and spending time with many people. She was always willing to help other people. She was a wonderful, daughter, mother, wife and friend. Pearl spent her lifetime dedicating her life to others.
Pearl is survived by her sons: Larry (Donna) Lundquist of Wayzata, MN, Darrel Lundquist of Bloomington, MN and Keith Lundquist of Colorado Springs, CO.; many nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Pearl is preceded in death by her husband, parents, infant son Gary, one brother Donald, and special sister-in-laws.
