Funeral services for former Waubay, SD, area resident, Mrs. Pauline "Peany" M. Jensen, age 79, of Milbank, will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2006, at the Hope Lutheran Church in Summit, SD. The Reverend Justin Neugebauer will officiate. Pauline died on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Beverly Healthcare in Milbank. Family members are asked to meet in the new church annex by 3:30 p.m. Saturday to attend services. Visitation will be at the Hope Lutheran Church in Summit on Friday from 5-7 p.m. There will be a prayer service for family and friends in the church at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. Visitation will continue in the church Saturday one hour before services. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff at Beverly Healthcare. Active pallbearers will be Hans Simpson, Leon Stoel, Brett Wagner, Wesley Drake, Steve Jensen, and Jeremy Lee. Burial will be in the Summit City Cemetery, rural Summit, SD. The Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home of Milbank is in charge of the arrangements.
Pauline was born Sept. 18, 1926, in rural Summit, S.D., the daughter of Harry and Ida (Mortenson) Mitchell. She graduated from Summit High School. Pauline obtained a teaching certificate from Northern Normal in Aberdeen, SD. She then taught in country school. Pauline was united in marriage to Vernon L. Jensen on July 5, 1947, in Webster, SD. Following marriage, her husband took over the family farm north of Ortley, S.D. They owned and operated an upholstery business following their retirement from farming. They continued to live north of Ortley until her husband entered Beverly Healthcare in Milbank in January 2002. Vernon died on June 17, 2003. Pauline entered Beverly Healthcare on October 15, 2004.
She was a former member of the Summit Methodist Church. When it closed, Pauline joined the Hope Lutheran Church.
Pauline enjoyed sewing, baking in her kitchen, square dancing, and monitoring elections.
Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Drake and husband Merlyn, Bellingham, MN; and Kay Lee, Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sons, Lynn Jensen and wife Pamela, Sundance, WY, and Jack Jensen and wife Karen, Wahpeton, N.D.; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Phyllis Aker and husband Clifford, Caroline Aker and husband Ronnie, and Lois Cotton, all of Watertown, S.D.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and three brothers.
