Paul Lindahl was born April 25, 1923, to parents Arthur and Clara (Halldin) Lindahl in Strandburg, South Dakota. He was the second of three children. Following graduation from Strandburg High School in 1941, he attended Watertown Commercial College and received his Accounting Certificate. While waiting for his draft notice, he worked for a dairy farmer in Hopkins, MN and then as a farm hand in Hudson, SD. At age 20, he enlisted in the US Navy. He was sent to the University of Wisconsin-Madison Communication School to receive training. He served in World War II as a Radioman Third Class. He served his time in the Philippines as a cryptographer and aboard the USS Avery Island, an electronic repair ship. After discharge, Paul worked as an accountant in Ortonville and Minneapolis. He returned to Ortonville and purchased the Accounting and Auditing firm he owned and operated for over 40 years. He retired in 1994.
He traveled half-way around the world, but found his soulmate ten miles from home in Clinton, MN. He married school teacher Marilyn Allen on June 20, 1953 at the United Methodist Church in Herman, MN. They made their home in Ortonville and to this union two sons were born, Gregg & Jay. Paul was a great family man and a wonderful father. Many memories will be treasured by his family and friends of time spent water-skiing, down-hill and cross country skiing, camping, golfing, piloting, hunting, fishing and working in the outdoors together.
Paul was deeply invested in the community of Ortonville. He was a leader in many community organizations including the Ortonville United Methodist Church, where he served 7-terms as Chairman of the Board and was on the building committee for the church completed in 1960. He was President of the Ortonville C&C and the Ortonville Jaycees, was a member of the Ortonville Golf Club, VFW & American Legion, charter member of Toastmasters, the Ortonville Economic Development Corporation, co-founder of Ameroc Investment Club and served as City of Ortonville Treasurer for 30 years.
Paul lived to the age of 84, passing away February 12, 2008 at the Ortonville Hospital. He inspired those closest to him by the courage he displayed while enduring his later life illness. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn and sons Gregg (Libby) of Atlanta, GA and Jay (Pam) of Chokio, MN and two grandchildren Russell (age 9) and Megan (age 5). Sister May Peterson of Granite Falls, MN; Brothers and Sisters-in-Law Don & Pat Schueller of Ocala, FL and Joe & Kay Gieselman of Apple Valley, MN; Sister-in-law Mabel Lindahl of Brookings, SD; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Clarence Lindahl, brother-in-law Henry Peterson, father and mother-in-law Russell and Thilda Allen.
