Otto George Graumann, the son of Herman and Louise (Weber) Graumann, was born on April 13, 1922, in Beardsley, MN in the family home. Otto was baptized on May 21, 1922 at the family home by Pastor George Penske and was confirmed August 1, 1937, by Pastor August Englehardt at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Beardsley, MN. He was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Lutheran, where he taught Sunday School for a number of years.
Otto attended grade school in Beardsley for 2 years then Golden Prairie country school through the 8th grade. He then went to Morris Ag and Boarding high school for 4 years. He would come home when he could on weekends to work on the family farm. He returned to the farm fulltime upon his graduation.
The Graumann family moved to the farm south of Beardsley in 1930 where Otto continued to live and took over the farm following his father’s death.
On September 23, 1946, Otto enlisted in the Amy, as part of the 7th Cavalry, where he served in Occupied Japan as a welder. He had the opportunity to work on General MacArthur’s jeep on one occasion. He was honorably discharged December 23, 1947. He moved back to the family farm after his military experience. In the fall of 2006, he made his home in the Clinton Care Center until May 12, when he entered the Grace Care Center.
Organizations Otto was involved in were Lutheran’s Laymen League, Beardsley Legion, VFW of Ortonville and Farmers Union.
The hobbies that Otto enjoyed were welding, fixing old cars and tractors, raising raspberries and apples to share with friends and neighbors. Otto was a great pool player and liked jigsaw puzzles. Being an Amsoil dealer was a good pastime that he enjoyed.
He is survived by his sisters, Elsie Mattson of Graceville, MN, Dorathy (Clarence) Martens of Graceville and Beardsley, MN; brothers, Elmer (Ursula) Graumann of Waseca, MN, Harvey (Dona) Graumann of Yucaipa, CA. and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by parents; sister, Helen Baxter; brothers-in-law, Gordon Baxter and Harvey “Pat” Mattson.
