Funeral services for Ora Mae George, age 91, of Ortonville, MN will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11:00 AM at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 2, 2012 from 5-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:45 PM at the Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville and also continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Pastor Marlene Elmstrom and David Tonn, Director of Youth and Parish Ministry will be officiating. Burial will be at Mound Cemetery in Ortonville.
Ora Mae Gertrude George was born in Motley, MN on March 1, 1920, to parents Walter and Olive (Jacobs) LaCombe. She grew up on a farm south of Big Stone City, SD and attended rural school through the 8th grade and graduated from Big Stone City High School in 1937. Ora Mae then completed a nine month secretarial course at the Minneapolis Business College. She worked for the University of Minnesota on the Farm Campus and then with the Immigration and Naturalization Service in St. Paul and Chicago. She served with the SPARS in the U.S. Coast Guard from February of 1945 until March of 1946, and was stationed in New Orleans, LA after graduation from basic training in Manhattan Island, NY.
Ora Mae married Dale F. George on March 16, 1946 in Ortonville, MN, where Dale was engaged in farming with his father and his brother, Rex. They parented two sons, Kendall and Scott.
Ora Mae worked for the law firm of Benson & Schreiner for 18 years and then served as the Clerk of District Court for 15 years, from which she retired in 1985. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling on bus tours throughout the states, and also doing needlework.
Ora Mae was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW and a member of First English Lutheran Church, having sung in the choir for many years and attending and participating in Day of Love.
Ora Mae passed away at the Ortonville Hospital on Tuesday, February 28th, 2012, having reached the age of 91.
Cherishing her memory is her son, Kendall (Shirley) of Gillette, WY; her daughter-in-law, Lynda George, of Paynesville, MN; her grandchildren: Justin (Jesse), Gina, Amber, and Tanna; two great grandchildren: Aubrey and Kellan; her brother, Arlen (Ardell) LaCombe of Ortonville, MN; nieces, nephews, and a host of relative and friends.
Ora Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, on June 26, 1970; her son, Scott, on March 6, 2003; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rex and Idyll George; and very special friend, Alvin Howen.
Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
