She grew up on the family farm southwest of Doland, SD. She attended the nearby country school and later the grade school in Doland where she graduated from high school in 1964. Following high school, Nancy attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She began her teaching career in Milbank, SD, in 1968. Two years later she attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion where she earned the necessary hours to become a certified librarian. After two years as a school librarian in Canova, SD, she returned to Milbank where she spent the rest of her teaching years either in the classroom or the elementary and middle school libraries.

Nancy was united in marriage with Lester "Ross" R. Bloem on April 13, 1974, in Milbank. They spent most of their married life on a small acreage north of town. They enjoyed traveling during summer vacations visiting friends and family. During their travels, Nancy was able to visit all but three of the fifty states. She enjoyed reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, watching old movies on television, and decorating for the various seasons. She was a member of MARTA, the local retired teachers’ association, and Valley Baptist Church in Milbank where she was baptized by immersion after accepting Jesus as her Savior. She helped out with their AWANA program and WMF for many years.

Bloem of Milbank, SD; three sisters: Charlotte Johnson of Greenville, MI; Beverly Stanford and Cheryl (Mark) Meier of Sioux Falls, SD; one brother, Johnny Lindskov of Doland, SD; two sisters-in-law: Janeva Bray of Arlington Heights, IL; and Kaye (Ken) Dohn of Dallas, TX; as well as many nieces and nephews.
