Mildred "Millie" Christine was born on January 20, 1933 in Browns Valley Township to Anton and Cecelia (Simon) Schwagel. Mildred was baptized as an infant, made her first communion and was confirmed into the catholic faith at the Church of St. Mary's in Beardsley, MN. As a young girl she attended school in Beardsley, MN.
Following school, Mildred married Robert Loren Watkins on August 07, 1948 in Beardsley, MN. To this union six children were born: Ann, Lynn, Kathy, Alan, Sheri, and Melanie. The family made their home in Big Stone City, SD, Fridley, MN and later returned to the Browns Valley area and ran Shady Dell resort for eleven years and continued living in Browns Valley since.
In her spare time, Millie enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, going to Bingo, and playing the slots.
On Saturday, November 12, 2005, Mildred passed away at the Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, SD. Mildred is survived by her husband, Robert Watkins, her children, Ann Helmeke of Rockhill, SC, Lynn (Paula) Watkins of Sisseton, SD, Kathy Dusing of Browns Valley, MN, Alan (Teri) Watkins of Spirit Lake, IA, Sheri (Terry) Stavick of Browns Valley, MN and Melanie (Gary) Markfort of Rock Hill, SC. Mildred is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; special friends Tom Helmeke, Jim Dusing, and Gary Kroger.
