Michael DeWayne Maas was born on May 13, 1964, in Appleton, MN, to Alvin and Jackie (Giese) Maas. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Appleton. Mike attended school in Odessa from kindergarten through fourth grade. He then attended school in Ortonville and graduated from Ortonville High School with the Class of 1982. He went on to pursue an education in diesel mechanics by attending Canby VoTech. His commitment to his career led him to work at John Deere in Huron, SD, before returning to Ortonville to farm alongside his family.

Mike attended many community events and regularly attended services at Abiding Faith Free Lutheran Church in Ortonville. In his younger years, he was on the church bowling league in Appleton following his move back from Huron. Mike was known for his enthusiasm for life and his ability to strike up conversations with anyone he met, exemplifying “never met a stranger twice."

In his leisure time, Mike enjoyed hunting, spending time on the farm, attending auction sales, and exploring pawn shops. Above all, he treasured moments shared with his family, especially his nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great- nephews.

He was a kind-hearted and down-to-earth individual who adored his family and cherished the relationships he built throughout his life.

Mike is survived by his mother, Jackie Maas of Odessa, MN; siblings: Paul (Barb) Maas of Ortonville, MN; David (Ronda) Maas of Ortonville, MN; and Pamela (Tim) Rehn of Willmar, MN; nieces and nephews: Sarah Maas of Rancho Cordova, CA; Greg (Ashley) Maas of Eau Claire, WI; Seth Maas of West Fargo, ND; Brittany (Kole) Mastel of Twin Brooks, SD; Shane (Kayla) Maas of Ortonville, MN; Devyn Maas of Grand Forks, ND; Maddy (Logan) Hendrickson of Bison, SD; and Grace Rehn (Chad Holstein) of Columbia, SC; great-nieces and nephews: Ryder Mastel, Rory Mastel, Raven Mastel, Sophia Maas, Addison Maas, Myles Maas, and Brinley Maas; along with the many friends he made over the years.
