Merel "Bill" Dinter, age 85 of Milbank passed away February 14, 2013, at St. William's Care Center in Milbank.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 20th at Mundwiler Funeral Home, beginning at 4 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. Father Gary DeRouchey will officiate.
Private family services and burial will be at a later date.
Merel George Dinter was born August 30, 1927, in North Bergen, NJ. He was the son of Richard Oscar and Mae (Baecker) Dinter. Bill grew up in Jersey City. Bill was united in marriage with Maureen Ann Farrell on September 3, 1948, at Long Beach, CA. Bill and Maureen lived in Washington, D.C. and in Boston, MA. Bill served in the United States Navy, enlisting on September 21, 1949. He served in the Medical Corp and was a dental tech. He was awarded the Naval Occupation (Europe) Medal; National Defense Service Medal; and the Good Conduct Medal. Bill was honorably discharged on September 16, 1953.
Bill and Maureen moved to Milbank and bought a hobby farm. Bill worked as a salesman for Midland Atlas Company and later worked at Hunter Granite Quarry. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and doing yard work for others. Bill attended St. Lawrence Catholic Church and was a member of the VFW Grant County Post #3486.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Maureen of Milbank, SD; four children: Dr. Richard (Colleen) Dinter of Hibbing, MN; Renae Hulbert of Milbank, SD; David (Heidi) Dinter of Gurnee, IL; Dale Dinter of Guerneville, CA; and daughter-in-law Ginger Dinter of Prosser, WA; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Timothy in 2011; and one sister, Vera.
