Mavis Steen, age 86, of Ortonville, MN, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Fairway View Neighborhoods.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton, MN. Please note change in visitation time: Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 25, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Monday. Minister Jim Rach will officiate the service and burial will take place at St. Pauli Lutheran Cemetery in rural Clinton, MN.
Mavis Evadine (Henrichs) Steen was born on July 31, 1934, in Odessa Township of Big Stone County, MN, to August and Cora (Mann) Henrichs. She grew up in the Clinton, MN, area and attended school graduating from Clinton High School with the Class of 1952.
On April 26, 1953, Mavis was united in marriage with Stewart O. Steen at Elim Lutheran Church in Clinton, MN. Together, they raised their two children: Kathy and Del. Mavis worked hard as a homemaker and farm wife helping her husband with the farming chores and raising her children.
Always working hard, Mavis held other jobs as her children grew older. She worked at the Clinton Café, the Firestone Store in Clinton, Mamie’s Department Store, Treone’s Clothing Store, KJ’s Convenience Store, and for Prairie Five. Mavis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton.
Mavis enjoyed cooking for her family and camping with Stewart when the weather was nice. She also enjoyed playing board games, playing Bridge, and quilting. Most importantly, Mavis loved the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Kathy (Allan) Guse of Ortonville, MN; son, Del (Jody) Steen of Dodge Center, MN; five grandchildren: Heidi Guse (special friend, Brian), Derek (Nissa) Guse, David Guse, Jeff (Megan) Steen, and Jenna (Travis) Shallbetter; seven great-grandchildren: Abby Biniek, Taylor Guse, Payton Guse, Preston Guse, Nolan Shallbetter, Ruby Shallbetter, and Ryder Steen; and a beloved plush bunny that Mavis stuffed herself, Ian.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stewart in 2015; brother, Donald Henrichs; sister, Betty Nelson; niece, RaNae Nelson; and nephews: Perry Nelson and Gary Nelson.
