Martha Jones

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha L. Jones, age 88, of Milbank, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. The Reverend James L. Wiese will officiate. Martha died on Monday, June 5, 2006, at the Milbank Area Hospital/Avera Health. The organist will be Roger Goosen and the soloist will be Larry Tietjen. Special music will also be presented by the Faith Choir. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. and in the church Wednesday one hour before services. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald and Iris Bunting, Orville and Evie Hilbrands, Eldred and Darlene Thiele, Mildred Schneck, the Tabitha Ladies Aid, and other members of the Willow Bend Extension Club. Active pallbearers will be Gary Cannedy, Ronald and Gary Oschendorf, Larry Giese, Bob Pauli, and Gary Jones. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.
Martha Lorina Emelia Giese was born on September 28, 1917, in Freeland Township, Lac qui Parle County, MN, the daughter of Robert and Emelia (Ross) Giese. She attended school at Town Walter School for five years. Martha was baptized on November 11, 1917, in Freeland Township by Reverend Bents. In 1929, Martha moved with her family to a farm near Ipswich, SD. She was confirmed on April 12, 1931, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ipswich by Reverend R.P. Gamm. Martha completed school through the eighth grade at Ipswich.
She was united in marriage to Floyd Jones on September 16, 1936, at Faulkton, SD, by the Reverend R.L. Schmidt. The couple lived in Edmunds County, SD, until moving to Summit, SD, in 1937. They farmed in Alban Township, Grant County, SD, from 1941-1978. Martha worked as a cook in the Milbank School Lunch Program from 1965 until her retirement in 1987. Floyd died on November 9, 1998. Martha continued to live in her apartment in Milbank until moving to Park Place two years ago. She had lived the last couple of weeks of her life in Beverly Healthcare.
Martha was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank where she was active in the Tabitha Ladies Aid. She also worked as a volunteer at the thrift store and the nursing homes in Milbank. Martha was also a fifty-year member of the Willow Bend Extension Club.
Survivors include one son, Dennis Jones and wife Theresa; one grandson, Todd Jones and wife Taunya; and one granddaughter, Tanya DuBois and husband Scott, all of Sioux Falls, SD; four great grandchildren, Ashlee, Parker, and Nickolas Jones, and Bobby DuBois, all of Sioux Falls; three sisters, Bertha Johnson, Canby, MN; Eldora Oschendorf, Dawson, MN; and Verdeena Knutson, Renville, MN; one brother, Frederick Giese, Canby, MN; many nieces and nephews, and special friend, Bonnie Hoeke, of Milbank.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd, one son, one daughter, two sisters, and two brothers.
