Funeral services for Mrs. Marlys Eveyn Boerger, 88, of Milbank, will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26th, 2009, at the Parkview United Methodist Church in Milbank. The Reverend Marlyn E. Kuper and Father John McMullen, OSB, will officiate. Marlys died on Saturday, August 22nd, 2009, at St. Williamd Care Center in Milbank. Family members are asked to meet in the church fireside room by 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to attend services. The organist will be Pat Kunz and the soloist will be Russ Howard. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. and will continue at the church on Wednesday one hour before services. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters: Dawn Cunningham, Kim Goetschius, Julie Lindgren, Jennifer Boerger, Amy Berg, Jessica Coalter, and Keri Haaven. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons: Joel, Jon, Tim, and Wayne Boerger, Brad Amberg, Mark Haaven, and David Hoffbeck. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.
Marlys was born on August 29th, 1920, in Milbank, SD, to Arthur and Eva (Strain) Williams. She attended rural Grant County schools, and graduated from Milbank High School in 1938.
She was united in marriage to Harold D. Boerger on November 23rd, 1939, in Milbank. They lived and farmed in Grant County until Harold's death in 1967. She remained on the farm for many years. She worked at the Gambles Store, and at Coast to Coast in Milbank. Marlys moved into Milbank in later years, and most recently resided at Park Place, until the last few months when she lived at St. Williams Care Center.
Her life was solidly centered around familya�"both immediate and extended. All through the years living on Highway 12, family and friends could count on an open door any time of the day or night. There they would always find a cup of coffee, great home baked goodies, and someone to talk to, laugh with, or cry on the shoulder of.
She was an active member of Parkview United Methodist Church
Marlys is survived by three sons, Gene (Jan) Boerger, Dale (Marge) Boerger, and Bill (Mindy) Boerger, all of Milbank; two daughters, Myrna Hoffbeck, of Columbus, OH, and Deb (Duane) Amberg, of Milbank; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild; two sisters, Treva Ahles, of Milbank, and Harriet (Jackie) Sweetland, of Hemet, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, her parents, and three brothers, Loral, Pete and Kenneth Williams.
