Marjorie Madeline Cota was born April 30, 1919 to George and Violet (Sullivan) Cota on their family farm in Graceville, MN. Marj was baptized, had her first communion and was confirmed at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville. She attended two country schools through the 8th grade and graduated from high school at the public school in Graceville in 1936.
Marjorie was united in marriage to John O’Donnell on November 9, 1939, in Collis, MN. They made their home on a farm in Collis. From this union, they were blessed with eight children, Patrick, Donald, Sharon, Thomas, Phyllis, William, Michael, and Mary. John died in March of 1974. After John’s death, Marj continued to live on the family farm.
Marj attended St. Patrick’s Church in Collis, St. Peter’s Church in Dumont, and most recently Holy Rosary in Graceville. Marj was very committed to her family. She was very involved in the lives of her children and her grandchildren. She was a very generous lady, always helping when and where she could. Marjorie was a good cook, having many relatives over on Sundays for big meals. People were always welcome at Marj’s house.
Marjorie enjoyed playing cards, cribbage and bingo. She was also a great seamstress, making cloths for her children and grandchildren.
Marjorie died on September 13, 2008 at the St. Cloud Hospital having reached the age of 89 years.
Marjorie is survived by her sons: Patrick (Beverly) O’Donnell of Baltic, SD, William (Kathy) O’Donnell of Lake City, MN and Michael (Kathleen) O’Donnell of Wabasha, MN; daughters, Phyllis (Robert) Jones of Brainerd, and Mary (Keith) Rodahl of Benson, MN; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Deb O’Donnell; brother Gregory Cota; sister Grace Hofer; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents; husband John; 3 children, Donald O’Donnell, Sharon O’Donnell, and Thomas O’Donnell; daughter-in-law Betty O’Donnell; granddaughter Carrie Fischer; four brothers and one sister.
Larson Funeral Home in Graceville is in charge of arrangements.
