Funeral services for Mrs. Marjorie D. Erickson, age 84, of Milbank, SD, and formerly of Stockholm, SD, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2009, at the Elim Evangelical Covenant Church in Stockholm, SD. The Reverend Mark Chapman will officiate. Family members are asked to meet in the church basement by 10:00 a.m. Friday to attend services. The pianist will Steve Misener and special music will be provided by Gary and Rosie Christianson and Pastor Mark and Linda Chapman. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and in the church Friday one hour before services. Pallbearers will be Erick Englund, Tim Englund, Aaron Dolen, Adam Dolen, Chad Bachman, and Dustin Anspach. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery near Stockholm.
Marjorie was born on May 6, 1925, in Turner County, South Dakota, to Hilbert and Martha (Luden) Hansen. As a young girl, she moved with her family to rural Strandburg, SD. She graduated from Strandburg High School in 1944 and attended Northern Normal in Aberdeen, SD, where she obtained a one-year teaching certificate. She taught in rural schools for a brief time.
She married Dale Englund on June 24, 1945, in LaBolt, SD. Following marriage, they lived in LaBolt and then in Stockholm where her husband had the John Deere Implement business. Dale died on March 5, 1979.
Marjorie married Elvin H. Erickson on December 15, 1979, in Watertown, SD. Following marriage, they farmed near Stockholm. In 1990 they moved to Stockholm. Marge had moved to Milbank in March 2007. Elvin died on September 14, 2007. She continued to live at Columbus Heights until her death. Marge was the director of the Interlakes Community Action Program (ICAP) in Milbank for many years.
She was a member of the Elim Evangelical Covenant Church in Stockholm where she had served on the church council and was a past church secretary. Marge was also an active member of the Grant County Historical Society and the Grant County Christian Service Council where she had been treasurer until a few months before her death. She also wrote the Stockholm news for the Grant County Review. Marge especially enjoyed her family and friends, the computer, reading, quilting, and crocheting.
Survivors include her three children: Rick Englund and wife Diane, Hopkins, MN; Daryl Englund and wife Marlys, Brookings, SD; and Julie Heggestad and husband Steve, Montevideo, MN; seven grandchildren: Tina Bachman and husband Chad; Erick Englund; Tim Englund and wife Jennie; Aaron Dolen; Adam Dolen and special friend, Brittany Jurek; Shana Anspach and husband Dustin; and Bryon Heggestad and wife Becky; and six great grandchildren: Taylor, Ella, Brody, Gavin, Griffin, and Ashley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one brother, Jerald Hansen; her son-in-law, Terry Dolen; and nieces and nephews.
