Marilyn Louise Dybvig was born on September 4, 1930, in Sioux Falls, SD to John Irvin and Marie Martha (Skattum) Johnson. She lived in Hills, MN until the age of six, at which time her family moved to California. They returned to Hills when Marilyn was entering her sophomore year in high school. She graduated from Hills High School in 1947 and continued her education at Mankato State Teachers College. Marilyn taught country school for two years.

On June 17, 1950, Marilyn married Robert Dybvig in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN. They made their home in Colton, SD for five years while Bob was employed in his family's tree nursery business. Marilyn and Bob then moved to Rock Rapids, IA, followed by Dell Rapids, SD, and in 1960 they settled in Ortonville. Whether in the home raising sons Bruce and Monte, or at work, first assisting her husband in managing Habicht's Department Store and later, in 1969, as proprietor of Mayme's Dress Shop, Marilyn was known for demonstrating hospitality and compassion. While operating Mayme's, she enjoyed supervising merchandizing interns from the Alexandria VoTech. After Marilyn sold Mayme's in 1990 she traveled throughout four states selling jewelry and also managed a sweatshirt kiosk. Marilyn officially retired in 1999.

Marilyn was involved in many activities. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church and the Ortonville Chamber of Commerce. She shared her knowledge of "Color Me Beautiful" and also taught knitting. She and Bob were avid sports fans, especially supporting Ortonville High School athletes. Marilyn and Bob also enjoyed yearly trips to California, spending the month of February visiting and sightseeing. Regular traveling companions were their dearest of friends, Maurice and Joyce Bly, who were from Madelia, MN. She loved to play cards, golf, and spend time with friends. Marilyn enjoyed all sorts of handiwork. As a result of this passion, each grandchild was presented a special "personalized" quilt on their 18th birthday. Valued above all was the time Marilyn was able to spend with her family, especially her grandchildren. She cherished the memories they made together.

Marilyn died on January 3, 2013, having reached the age of 82.

Left with her loving memory is her husband of 62 years, Bob, of Ortonville; her sons: Bruce (Joanie) of Burnsville, MN and Monte (Carol) of Cambridge, MN; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and her brother, Jack Johnson of Anaheim, CA.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her infant son, David.

Marilyn's family wishes to offer their thanks for the loving care demonstrated by the respective staffs of Fairway View, Northridge, and the Ortonville Hospital. Special thanks to Pastors Marlene and David of First English Lutheran Church, Doctors Stacy Longnecker and Robert Ross, and the many friends from the Ortonville community.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Ortonville Area Health Services Association or First English Lutheran Church.
