Marie was born on a bright summer’s day on July 7, in the year 1930, to Evelyn and Nicholas Philagios. Marie grew up on a farm north of Clinton. On December 26, 1951, Marie became the wife of Jack Zehringer whose farmland lay north of Ortonville. She was the mother of three children, Kathy, Kristy, and David Zehringer. With determination and patience, the lands yielded the needs of the family each season.
Marie developed multiple sclerosis that progressively advanced her to requiring a wheelchair and care attendants. Since 1983, her care attendants assisted her in living independently in her own home.
Marie’s faith and love of life and others was evident to those who knew her. They also know how she struggled to retain her abilities. She was born with ingenuity that made things work out.
Marie passed away Thursday, December 11, 2008, at Ortonville Area Health Services. She lived to reach the age of 78 years. Those who knew her, will greatly miss her gentile nature, but joyfully celebrate her new freedom with her spirit.
She is survived by her children; Kathy, Kristy and David; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Katherine Lee and Ruth Keith; brother, John Philagios and many nieces and nephews.
