Funeral services for Mrs. Marie E. Menze, age 91, of Milbank, will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2005, in the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. The Reverend James L. Wiese will officiate. Marie died on Friday, October 21, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare in Milbank. The organist will be Roger Goosen. Family members are asked to meet in the church chapel by 10:30 a.m. Monday to attend services. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will continue in the church on Monday one hour prior to services. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters: Reenie Vipond Ivers, Jerilyn Menze Radzak, Jo Marie Menze Hlava, Terri Smith, and Talia Veen McBride. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons: Jim Vipond, Jay Menze, Jeff Menze, Jon Menze, Tim Smith, Tom Smith, and Tyson Veen. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.
Marie was born on June 11, 1914, in Oak Valley Township, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl and Kate (Eckman) Borchers. She grew up Deer Creek, MN, and graduated from Deer Creek High School. Marie was united in marriage to Theodore W. "Ted" Menze on April 2, 1936, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Deer Creek. Following marriage, the couple lived in Ottertail, MN, thru 1947; Battle Lake, MN, 1948; and in Milbank from 1949 to the present. Marie worked at Flanery's Sausage in Milbank. She also worked as a retail clerk at Hans Hardware, Allen's Clothing Store, and at the Emanuel Furniture Store for more than twenty-five years. Marie also worked for the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home during visitations. She also was a pre-school aide at Emanuel Lutheran. Marie was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church. Marie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, entertaining, traveling, and especially her family and her church.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Smith, and Linda Veen and husband Dayle, all of Milbank; one daughter-in-law, Jan Menze, Holyoke, MN. twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte Brunko and Catherine Babcock, both of Wadena, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Marie's parents, husband Ted, on Jan. 8, 2004, son Jerry Theodore Menze; brother Clark Borchers; sister Ada Lohman; granddaughter Traci Smith; and two sons-in-law, Gerald Vipond and Donald "Ducky" Smith, preceded her in death.
