Margy Oswood

Margy Helen (Onken) Oswood was born on August 2, 1929 in Madison, MN. She was the 6th of eight children born to Jonas and Malinda (Onken) who farmed near Marietta, MN. Margy was confirmed on Mach 8, 1945 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Nassau, MN. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1947. She received normal training and taught country school. Unlike the many educators in her family, she decided teaching was not for her, so she enrolled in the Minneapolis School of Business.

On June 13, 1921, Margy was united in marriage to Edward Larson of Revillo, SD. Following their marriage, they lived in Colorado Springs, CO while Edward went through army basic training. After his duty in Korea, Margy and Edward settled in Madison, MN where they raised their family of 4 daughters. Margy worked at the Lac Qui Parle Ag Office for many years.

After Edward's death in 1965, Margy was married to Donald Oswood in 1967. The family moved to Ortonville, MN where Margy worked as a case aide for the Big Stone County Social Services for 12 years. She and Don retired to Big Stone City, SD where Don passed away in 1999.

Margy was a member of First English Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her Bible Study group, baking (especially cinnamon rolls for her family), working crossword puzzles, and watching TV, especially the Minnesota Twins.

Margy passed away at the Ortonville Hospital on December 28, 2010.

Margy is survived by her 4 daughters: Kathy (Kevin)Morten of Big Stone City, SD, Marlene (Don) Nelson of Alexandria, MN, Shirley Marek of Platte City, MO, and Debbie Henrickson of Ortonville, MN; 8 grandchildren: Natalie (Ryan), Jeffrey, Reid, Scott, Adam (Natalie), Melissa, Kristin (Brent) and Patricia; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers: Ray Onken of Marietta, MN, Robert (Orla) Onken of Gardnerville, NE, and Don (Donna) Onken of Rockville, IL; 1 sister Esther Boyce of Cissna Park. IL; several cousins and many nieces and nephews.

Margy is preceded in death by her husband Edward; her parents; three sisters: Joan Buttke, Eva Weekley and Betty Anderson; son-in-law Wayne Marek; and her husband Donald.
