Margaret Dorothy Hanson was born November 20, 1911, to parents Jens and Amelia (Blessing) Jensen is Stillwater, MN. She grew up in the Clinton area and attended the Clinton High School. On October 31, 1933, Margaret married Bernard Nelson in Watertown, SD. To this union two children were born, Norman and Carol. Sadly, Bernard passed away on August 17, 1959. Margaret was then remarried to Hans Hanson on January 1, 1969, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton, MN. She became a mother to Eunice, Vivian, Mardis and Judy. Hans passed from this life on April 14, 1995. Margaret treated all of her children to wonderful baked treats that included lefse, cinnamon rolls, and homemade bread. Margaret was always vigorously active, often tiring her children out long before she showed signs of slowing down.
Margaret was always active with one activity or another. She was a fastidious housekeeper, a tireless cook and baker, and always fiercely independent. Margaret was known to set a kitchen timer for three minutes and talk for just the amount of time before rushing off to her next project, or setting a timer for fifteen minutes and taking a quick nap. She always had time to devote to her church, Trinity Lutheran in Clinton, volunteering to cook or bake, and also being an active part in WELCA and various circles. Margaret also took time to enjoy playing cards and games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all whom adored her.
Margaret passed away Wednesday, February 08, 2006, at the Ortonville Hospital in Ortonville, MN. She is proceeded in death by both of her husbands; her grandson, Gary Elston; two sisters, Marie Cooper and Josephine Baird; and two brothers, Leonard and Kenneth Jenson.
Survivors include her son, Norman (Joann) Nelson of Fresno, CA; daughter, Carol (Donald) Elston of Hope, ND; four step-daughters, Eunice (Wally) Redfield of Morris, MN, Vivian (Howard) Janssen of Ortonville, MN, Mardis (Melvin) Doll of Garrison, MN, and Judy (Calvin) Lindman of Bloomington, MN. Margaret is also survived by two brothers, Elmer Jensen of Clinton, MN, Oliver (Lois) Jensen of Chokio, MN; and three sisters, Kethrine Hall of Renondo Beach, CA, Ruth Tyler of Hot Springs Village, AK, and Pauline Redfield of Mesa, AZ. The apple of Margaret?s eye was her five grandchildren, twelve step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, twenty-one step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great granddaughter.
