Maecille Schull

Funeral services for Maecille Schull, age 90, of Milbank, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23rd, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. Pastor Keith Bicknase will officiate. The organist will be Carol Ydstie and the soloist will be Ray Ogdahl. Maecille died on Sunday, Sept. 12th, at St. Williams Care Center in Milbank.

Family members are asked to meet in the church fellowship hall by 10:00 a.m. Thursday to attend services. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Wednesday, Sept. 22nd, from 5-7 p.m. and will continue in the church Thursday one hour before services. Pallbearers will be Jim Beskow, Greg Richter, Allen Richter, Wayne Steinocker, Lloyd Grabow, Jr., and Bert Helmbrecht. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.

Maecille was born on June 20, 1920, to Erwin and Emma (Richter) Beskow in Watertown, SD. She was confirmed and baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rauville, SD.

She attended grade school in Codington County, SD, and graduated from Watertown High School in 1936 with high scholastic honors.

Maecille married Alvin Kasuske on February 9, 1938. Following marriage, the couple farmed in Melrose Township northwest of Milbank. To this union three children were born. Alvin died on December 23, 1967.

Following his death, Maecille attended Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, SD, where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 1971. She worked at St. Bernard's Hospital (now the Milbank Area Hospital-Avera Health), St. William's Home, and Beverly Health Care (now the Golden Living Center), in Milbank.

Maecille married Walter Schull on July 1, 1980. They resided in Tucson, AZ, Milbank, and at her lake home on Pickerel Lake. Mr. Schull died April 24, 1984.

Maecille was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. She was a past zone president of the LWML. She was also a past member of the Martha Guild. She was a former Pink Lady and hospice volunteer.

She was a longtime Red Cross volunteer at the Whetstone Valley Nursing Home (formerly Beverly Health Care and now the Golden Living Center) in Milbank.

Maecille was a 4-H leader for twenty-five years. She was a past president of the State 4-H Leader's Association. She earned the Emerald Clover award for twenty-five years of service to the 4-H organization.

She was also a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary #9 of Milbank.


Her hobbies included leather craft and knitting. She also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing bridge, and square and round dancing with the Ol' Mill Twirlers.

Survivors include her daughter, Lynae Grabow and husband Jeff, South Shore, SD; her son, Dennis Kasuske and wife Rosann, Milbank; three grandchildren: Kari DeSchepper and husband Brian, Lees Summit, MO; Tim Grabow and wife Lacey, South Shore; and Starr Cole and husband John, Crawfordsville, IN; her granddaughter-in-law, Nancy Kasuske, Wentworth, SD; three great granddaughters; two great grandsons; her brother-in-law, Terry Mays, Ridgefield, CT; two nieces; and three special friends: Vilie Rethke, Milbank; Henrietta Gohring, Brookings, SD; and Julaine Wedin, Plymouth, MN.

In addition to her parents, Maecille was preceded in death by her two husbands; her son, Monte; two grandsons, Kipp and Corey Kasuske; and her sister, Merilah Mays.

The Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home of Milbank is entrusted with her arrangements.
