Leslie K. Nelson was born on August 19, 1911 in Graceville, MN to parents, Christian and Dorothea (Frandsen) Nelson. Leslie was baptized on April 22, 1924 in Graceville, and was confirmed on April 10, 1927 at the Mt. Olive English Lutheran Church. Leslie attended Graceville school, and graduated in 1931.
On July 30, 1933, Leslie was united in marriage to Florence Warner in Britton, SD. Leslie spent his entire life in Graceville, except for a brief time spent in Dundas, MN during WWII. Leslie worked various jobs including managing the Municipal Liquor Store and the Theatre. He was active in community affairs, including volunteer fireman, school board member, church council member, and on the cemetery board. Leslie coached the Junior Legion Baseball Team for many years.
Leslie and Florence traveled extensively in every state in the U.S.A. Their travels also took them to Denmark five times. Some of Leslie's hobbies were hunting, fishing, golfing, and wood working. He enjoyed his cabin that he built on Lake Traverse. Memories of the students that rode the school bus that Leslie drove were very important to him.
On Tuesday, June 29, 2004, Leslie Nelson passed away at Grace Home, Graceville, MN, reaching the age of 92 years, 10 months, and 10 days.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Dorothea Nelson; two sisters, Anna Heidelberger and Helen Heyer; and one brother, Francis Nelson.
Survivors include his wife, Florence of Graceville, MN; his children, Phyllis (Arlo) Andrews of Johnson, MN, Jane (Gerald) Hendricks of Fargo, ND, Richard (Patricia) Nelson of Sioux Falls, SD, Warner (Judy) Nelson of Colorado Springs, CO, Francis (Marilyn) Nelson of Mound, MN, and Carol (Dalas) Weisz of Pagosa Springs, CO; one sister-in-law, Florene (Warner) Zimmerman of Osseo, MN; twenty grandchildren; and thirty-six great grandchildren.
